Nigeria Labour Unions Launch Nationwide Strike Over Minimum Wage Dispute and Electricity Tariff Increases
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have initiated an indefinite nationwide strike starting June 3, 2024, to demand a new minimum wage and reverse electricity tariff hikes, contending government's offer of N60,000 against their demand of N494,000 per month. The government, however, calls the strike illegal and warns of potential public hardship and political instability.
